The young leaders of Youth for Policy came to Dhaka from around the country for policy advocacy on youth employment at home and abroad. They attended several events including a meeting with the senior officials from Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). The young leaders shared their experience of visiting the local technical training centres and they were requested by the government officials to formally submit their suggestion to BMET as a report. The suggestions will be aimed at increasing youth skill and employability by expanding training facility at Technical Training Centers (TTC) around the country.
The meeting on 27th January 2019 was held after a series of TTC visits across the nation by these volunteers to learn about the training facilities for safer and orderly migration. IID’s CEO Syeed Ahamed conducted the meeting where the director of BMET Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Sr. Teacher Shamsun Nahar and other BMET officials along with the volunteers were present.

Jashore, Barishal, Gaibandha, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Potuakhali and Dinajpur TTCs were few of the TTCs visited by the volunteers. During their visit, they created awareness on aspirant migrant’s rights, both in home and abroad, while collecting feedback on the training facility.
During the meeting, the young volunteers learned the role of BMET in providing training to potential migrant workers through TTCs and gave their own feedback based on their TTC visits in the last few months. They discussed the potential of scaling up the training facility, as well as adding new features like – hiring returnee migrants to train the aspirant migrants by sharing their personal experience.
Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Director (Training), BMET praised the volunteers for their active involvement in the policy making process. He also promised them to take necessary actions based on the suggestions from the volunteers.
