When we talk about millions of migrants and billions of remittances – we often forget the depth of humane stories behind these numbers. ‘One of Millions Migrant Story’ is a photo story that highlights the emotional and humane story of one migrant family. This was the theme of IID and BNSK’s award winning stall at the Migrant Fair on International Migrants Day 2019, organized by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. The stall was awarded the first prize for best stall in NGO/INGO category.
International Migrants Day 2019 was celebrated jointly by the government, Civil Society Organizations and international partners on 19th December 2019 in BICC Dhaka hosted by the Ministry of Expatriate’s Welfare and Overseas Employment. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the International Migrants Day program stressing the call to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration from Bangladesh followed by a migration fair on the BICC premises.

Various stakeholders, including public and private banks, government agencies, NGOs, INGOs and recruiting agencies participated in the fair with stalls to display their activities. IID and BNSK jointly put up the stall ‘One of Millions Migrant Story’. The stall was visited by who’s who of migration governance including the minister, secretary, BMET Director and development leaders. Expatriate’s Welfare and Overseas Employment’s honorable minister Imran Ahmad MP visited IID’s stall and invited them for a meeting on further scope of working for ethical recruitment through compact of sending countries.
International Organization for Migration (IOM), International Labour Organization (ILO), WARBE Development Foundation, Winrock International, Bangladeshi Ovhibashi Mohila Shramik Association, Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies, Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training are among the many other organizations took part in the event.
