A large number of labour migrants from Bangladesh use informal channels to start their journeys abroad by putting them in an exacerbated position with higher risk of abuse and exploitation. The economy of Bangladesh largely depends on the remittance sent by these migrants. Safer and fairer labour migration issue needs to be on top of our economic and human development priorities but the actual scenario is not as expected.
Fairer and safer labour migration policy has always been an important issue for Bangladesh. IID has signed an agreement with PROKAS, British council to jointly work on a project named “Fairer Labour Migration” December 21, 2016. WARBE, RMMRU, BOMSA and YPSA are the four partners to conduct the project and IID will assess the whole process.
