About the Consultation
The national tripartite consultation on ‘Gender-responsive Sustainable Approaches to Human Mobility’ was held on Tuesday the 22nd October 2019 at the Ministry of Expartiates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) has been a state-led, but not state-only, platform that has been influencing the global discourse on migration and development for over a decade. The Twelfth GFMD Summit will be held on 20-24th January 2020 in Quito, Ecuador with thematic focus on— “Sustainable approaches to human mobility: Upholding rights, strengthening state agency, and advancing development through partnerships and collective action”.
As women account for around 44 per cent of the estimated 150 million migrant workers worldwide, sustainable approach to human mobility needs to be gender-responsive. Along with that, given the different scenario of the economic migration of Bangladeshis, the agenda and themes of GFMD needs to be localized as well.
The national consultation contextualized the theme of GFMD Summit through national and gender equality lenses.
This tripartite consultation was co-hosted by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, UN Migration Network and CSOs for Global Commitments on Migration (CGCM). It was organized by IID Migration Policy Unit and Bangladesh Nari Sramik Kendra (BNSK) with supprot from PROKAS/British Council.
